Goals for this lesson

• Use the simple present to describe clothes and habits (is/are, is made of, wear).
• Describe colours, materials, style, and how you feel in your clothes.
• Write a short paragraph (5–7 sentences) about your favourite clothes and when you wear them.

Key words & sentence frames

Tip: We use the simple present for general facts and routines: They are, They’re made of, I wear, They match.

Part 1 — Building sentences step by step

A clear sentence has a subject + verb + details (colour, material, time, feeling).

• My favourite clothes are my black hoodie and grey joggers.
• I wear them when I go to the park.
• The hoodie is made of soft cotton.
• They look casual and they make me feel comfortable.
• They match my white trainers.

Part 2 — Model paragraph

Example (Mia):

My favourite clothes are my blue jeans and a green hoodie. I wear them on Saturdays when I meet my friends. The hoodie is made of warm cotton, so it feels soft and cosy. My jeans are strong and comfortable for walking. These clothes look simple and sporty, and they make me feel relaxed and confident. They also match my white trainers.

Why this is good: It uses are/is, is made of, feelings (cosy, confident), and explains when she wears them.

Part 3 — Guided writing

1. Plan: Choose two or three favourite items. List 2 colours, 1–2 materials, 2 adjectives, when you wear them, and how they make you feel.
2. Draft: Use these starters:

3. Check: Use the A1 checklist below.

Part 5 — Your paragraph

Write 5–7 sentences about your favourite clothes. Include colours, materials, style, when you wear them, and how they make you feel.

Sample answer: My favourite clothes are my white T-shirt and dark blue jeans. I wear them on the weekend when I go out. The T-shirt is made of soft cotton and the jeans are strong denim. They look simple and stylish, and they match my white trainers. These clothes make me feel comfortable and confident.
