Goals for this lesson
- Use the simple present to talk about everyday habits (wake up, eat, go, study, sleep).
- Use time expressions (at 7:00 AM; in the morning/afternoon/evening; then; after that; finally).
- Write a short paragraph (5–7 sentences) about your day from morning to night.
Key words & sentence frames
Daily actions: wake up, get up, brush my teeth, wash my face, take a shower, get dressed, have breakfast, go to school/work, study, have lunch, play, do my homework, have dinner, relax, go to bed, fall asleep
Time words: in the morning, at noon, in the afternoon, in the evening, at night, then, after that, finally, usually, sometimes, always, never
Useful frames:
- I wake up at … / I get up at …
- In the morning, I … / At … I …
- Then I … / After that I …
- In the afternoon/evening, I …
- I go to bed at …
Tip: Routines use the simple present: I wake up, I go, I have. Add time to make sentences clear: at 7:00 AM, in the afternoon.
Part 1 — Building sentences step by step
A clear sentence has a subject + verb + details (time, place, order, feeling).
- I wake up at 7:00 AM. (subject + verb + time)
- In the morning, I eat breakfast with my family. (time + activity)
- Then I go to school at 8:00 AM. (sequencer + activity + time)
- After that, I study and play with my friends. (sequencer + activities)
- I do my homework at 5:00 PM and go to bed at 9:30 PM. (evening routine)
Part 2 — Model paragraph
Example (Ali):
My day is simple. I wake up at 7:00 AM and get ready for school. I have breakfast at 7:20 AM. Then I go to school at 8:00 AM. I study from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. In the afternoon, I play football with my friends and then I do my homework at 5:00 PM. In the evening, I have dinner with my family at 7:00 PM and watch a short TV show. Finally, I go to bed at 9:30 PM. This routine makes me feel organised and happy.
Why this is good: It uses the simple present, includes time words and sequencers (then, after that, finally), and covers morning → evening.
Part 3 — Guided writing
- Plan: List your times (wake up, school/work, homework, dinner, bed) + 1–2 activities you do in the afternoon/evening.
- Draft: Use these starters:
