Goals for this lesson

• Use the simple present to give personal information (name, age, country/city, family, hobbies).
• Use basic sentence frames to talk about likes, favorites, and feelings.
• Write a short paragraph (5–7 sentences) introducing yourself.

Key words & sentence frames

Personal info: name, age, city, country, school, class

Family: mother, father, parents, sister, brother, grandparents

Hobbies & favorites: reading, drawing, football/soccer, music, swimming • favorite color/food/subject

Useful frames:

• My name is … / I am … (I’m …)
• I am … years old.
• I live in … (city/country).
• I have … (one brother / two sisters).
• My favorite … is … (color/food/subject).
• I like … (playing football / reading books).
• I feel … (happy/excited) when I …

Tips: Use the simple present for facts and routines (I am, I have, I like). Capitalize I and names of people and places (Karim, Casablanca, Morocco).

Part 1 — Building sentences step by step

A clear sentence has a subject + verb + details (age, place, favorites, hobbies, feelings).

• My name is Karim. (name)
• I am nine years old. (age)
• I live in Casablanca, Morocco. (place)
• I have one sister. (family)
• My favorite color is green. (favorite)
• I like playing football after school. (hobby)
• I feel happy when I play with my friends. (feeling)

Part 2 — Model paragraph

Example (Amira):

Hello! My name is Amira and I am eight years old. I live in Rabat with my family. I have one brother and one sister. My favorite color is pink and my favorite food is couscous. I like singing and drawing pictures. I feel excited when I play with my friends at the park.

Why this is good: It uses the simple present, gives personal details (name, age, place, family), and adds favorites, hobbies, and feelings.

Part 3 — Guided writing

1. Plan: List your name, age, city/country, 1–2 family facts, 2 favorites, 1 hobby, and 1 feeling.
2. Draft: Use these starters:
   • My name is … / I am … years old.
   • I live in …
   • I have …
   • My favorite … is …
   • I like …
   • I feel … when I …
3. Check: Use the A1 checklist below.

Self-check (A1 writing checklist)

• Did I use the simple present (am, have, like, live, feel)?
• Did I capitalize I and names (people/places)?

Part 5 — Your paragraph

Write 5–7 sentences introducing yourself. Include: name, age, place (city/country), family (one fact), two favorites, one hobby, and one feeling.

Sample answer: My name is Omar and I am ten years old. I live in Agadir with my parents and my sister. My favorite color is red and my favorite food is tagine. I like playing football and drawing comics. I feel excited when I learn new things at school.
