Goals for this lesson
- Use the simple present to talk about daily actions (wake up, brush, eat, get dressed, leave).
- Use time expressions (at 7:00 a.m., after, before, then, usually).
- Write a short paragraph (5–7 sentences) about your morning routine.
Key vocabulary & time expressions
Actions: wake up, get out of bed, brush my teeth, wash my face, take a shower, get dressed, have breakfast, pack my bag, leave for school/work, catch the bus
Time words: at 6:30 a.m., after, before, then, next, usually, sometimes, first
Tip: Routines use the simple present: I wake up, I brush, I have, I go.
Part 1 — Building sentences step by step
A clear sentence has a subject + verb + details (time, place, reason).
- I wake up at 7:00 a.m. (subject + verb + time)
- I brush my teeth before breakfast. (subject + verb + time phrase)
- I have breakfast with my family in the kitchen. (adds place)
- I leave for school at 8:00 a.m. because my bus comes at 8:10. (adds a reason)
Part 2 — Model paragraph
Example (Sarah):
My name is Sarah, and my mornings are busy but happy. I wake up at 7:00 a.m., then I brush my teeth and wash my face at 7:10. I have breakfast with my family at 7:30, and I enjoy cereal and fruit. After that, I get dressed and pack my school bag by 7:45. Finally, I leave for school at 8:00 a.m. This routine helps me feel organized and ready to learn.
Why this is good: It uses time words (at 7:00, at 7:10, at 7:30, after that, finally), connects ideas (then, after that, finally), and stays in the simple present.
Part 3 — Guided writing
- Plan: List three times you do things (e.g., wake up, breakfast, leave).
- Draft: Use these starters:
- I wake up at …
- Then I …
- I have breakfast at …
- Before I leave, I …
- I leave for school/work at …
- Check: Use the checklist below.

Review & reflection
- Which time words did you use? (at, after, before, then, usually)
- What is one habit that makes your morning easier?
- Can you add one more detail (place, reason, or feeling) to your paragraph?
